You might not know it but 'Dodge' actually stands for Dodge Division of Chrysler Group, and it's a brand which produce automobiles, minivans, and sports utility vehicles as we all know. It represents not only a trade mark, but a way of living, a lifestyle. It was founded in 1900 by the Dodge brothers, John and Horace. Their first car under this name was produced in 1915. Until then they were producing only automobile parts, then venturing into the actual manufacture of Dodge cars.
After the Dodge brothers died in 1920, the company was passed to their widows, and the number of sold vehicles fell dramatically. The company was first sold to Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 and eventually, the Dodge corporation was sold to the Chrysler Group in 1928.
Chrysler survived two world wars, and during all these years it had, and still has many remarkable examples.

One of these excellent and innovative examples is certainly the Dodge Nitro 4x4, and represents a new wave of SUV / 4x4 designed for the family market. It's a perfect car for all ages and genders, and although the Dodge 4x4 Nitro is one of the largest Dodge vehicles, it is a rugged yet attractive design.
The engine is available in a 3.7L, 4.0L V6 and a smaller more economical 2.8L Diesel that is manufactured for the European market only. There is also a variety of gearbox transmissions available, including the 6-speed (2006-2008 models), 4-speed, and 5-speed Mercedes automatic. The four wheel drive has an overall length of 178.9 inches (4,544 mm), a height of 69.9 in (1,775 mm) and a width of 73.1 in (1,857 mm) - consequently it's a real monster on the road. It has a Chrysler platform and is based on a 4-door SUV. With four-wheel drive capabilities, what more can you wish for?
The first Dodge Nitro was manufactured in 2008, and since then it is said by some to be one of the most desirable SUV's in the world.
It weights 4,162 lb (1,888 kg), and it's stability is very good for such a large vehicle. It also has an automatic transmission, and 12 valves. When not used in the part-time four wheel drive, the Nitro is basically a rear-wheel drive vehicle, which wouldn't be that great on slippy / snowy surfaces, however the 4WD capability will keep you on the right track. It has a roomy interior that is very comfortable for long journeys, and both the interior and exterior styling is fabulous.

The interior of the Dodge Nitrol is functional yet refined, and very comfortable.
It is a really fun car to drive and to travel in, and is Dodge's perfect answer to the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4 and the Kia Sorento. It has great off-road capabilities, however you would probably want to remain on semi-reasonable surfaces so you don't damage the bodywork as it's such a nice car.
If you are a car lover, especially of SUV's or big cars in general, I can guarantee you that Dodge Nitro is definitely worthy of serious consideration. Of course this car also has some defects (as with any car), but in comparison to the positives, the flaws are not really significant. For example, the Nitro is not that great in terms of gas mileage / fuel economy in comparison to the new RAV4, however if you sit and review all the pros and cons, you will see that the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
